Even flowers of the same kind exhibit unique characteristics in their petals, leaves, and stems. However, in nature, they often grow in clusters, and for gifts or decoration, they are usually arranged in bouquets. This makes it rare for a single flower to stand out alone. Consequently, the individual traits of each flower are often overlooked.

 

It seems to me that a similar tendency exists in human society. People are often identified and categorized by labels such as nationality, place of origin, age, company, or school, and their personalities are broadly perceived through these affiliations. However, it is exceedingly rare for the focus to be on their true selves — what they truly love, their dreams and goals, and what they feel, think, and do every day — in a way that leads to a deeper understanding of their characters.

 

As long as individuals are only recognized as part of a group, their unique personalities remain hidden in the shadows and become buried without ever being seen. Additionally, spending a long time in an environment built on such impersonal mutual understanding may lead one to believe that living a life without expressing their individualities is the right way to live.

 

However, just as each flower possesses its own unique beauty, each person’s individuality is precious and unparalleled. Valuing and living true to this individuality can lead to achieving dreams and goals, and to living a fulfilling life filled with happiness, inspiration, joy, and excitement.

 

With these thoughts on individuality in mind, I created a distinctive single-flower vase that highlights the unique beauty of each flower, allowing it to stand out, be observed, and be enjoyed.

花は同じ種類であっても、花弁や葉、茎の形や色など、一輪一輪に異なる個性があります。一方で、自然の中では群生していたり、贈答や観賞用には花束であったりと、一輪が独立して存在することは希少で、往々にして個々の個性は見逃されがちなのではないかと思います。

 

同様の傾向が、人間社会にもあるような気がしています。国籍や出身地、年齢、会社や学校など、属性や所属する集団などのラベルによって存在が確認され、人格の概要が認識されることはあっても、本当に好きなこと、夢や目標、また日々何を感じ、何を考え、どう時間を過ごしているのかなど、本来の自分の姿に焦点が当たり、それによって人格の理解を得られることは極めて稀ではないでしょうか。

 

集団の中の一に過ぎない存在としてしか認識されない限り、集団の陰に個性が隠れ、それは日の目を見ることなく埋もれてしまいます。また、そうした没個性的な相互理解によって成り立つ環境下で長い時間を過ごすと、ともすれば個性を発現することなく人生を全うすることが正しいことのように思えてしまうこともあるかもしれません。

 

ですが、花の一輪一輪がそうであるように、人の個性もそれぞれに固有の美しさを備えており、他に類を見ない唯一無二の尊いものです。そして、その個性を大事に、個性に素直に生きることが、夢や目標を達成したり、幸せや感動、嬉しさや楽しさに満ちた心豊かな人生を送ることにも繋がるのではないかと思います。

 

こうした個性に対する思いを込めて、一輪の花の個性に焦点を当て、これを美しく際立たせ、観察し、そして楽しめるような、存在感のある一輪挿しを製作しました。
